MWM DesignGroup’s President Julia M. Harrod, P.E. was presented with the prestigious 2013 Engineer of the Year award by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE), Travis Chapter for her significant contributions to the profession, specifically her work to promote education in math and science. “Being recognized by my peers at TSPE means a tremendous amount to me,” she said, “I credit much of my professional development to my membership in this organization.” Ms. Harrod is one of only two women to have been honored with this award since its inception in 1955, a testament to her efforts to promote Professional Engineering to a broad and inclusive younger generation.
Although Ms. Harrod is strongly dedicated to her leadership role at MWM DesignGroup, her most notable contribution to the engineering profession has been her advocacy at both the local and state level. She currently serves as Texas Society of Professional Engineer’s (TSPE) Past President, Texas Engineering Foundation Trustee, and Member of the External Advisory Committee for the University of Texas at Austin Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering.
